Toro Toro Toro

Last night I went to an event at Toro New York, owned and operated by James Beard Award-winning Chefs Ken Oringer & Jamie Bissonnette. It's known specifically for its Barcelona-style tapas though I think there is some Asian fusion elements in some of the dishes.

Finally, I got to check out the Private Event Space of Toro. What a cool lounge and bar! This space is perfect for a cocktail reception as well as a sit down dinner. I like the industrial look combined with greenery and plush banquettes to soften the room. I also like the "Toro touch" with the bull head on the wall. The Toro event space can accommodate up to 50 guests for a seated dinner and about 85 guests for a reception. What's also nice is that the event space has a separate entrance from the restaurant. In fact, it's around the corner on 16th Street and 11th Avenue (Toro's restaurant entrance is on 15th Street and 11th Avenue).

How can I talk about Toro without talking about the food?! These were my faves of the evening: La Flor y la Abeja is a white wine equivalent to a pinot grigio and is mildly sweet; Bocadillo de Erizos is a pressed sandwich of sea urchin, miso butter and pickled mustard seeds; I didn't catch the name of the oyster dish, but it tasted like baked oysters in Hollandaise sauce.
