Dinner at Delmonico's

Dinner at Delmonico's

Delmonico's is that restaurant that was featured in all the movies where finance executives of Wall Street had their power lunch. Most memorable for me was a scene from "The Associate" starring Whoopi Goldberg, where her character finds out she's been overlooked for a promotion. How did she know? Because her colleague was taken to lunch at Delmonico's...and she wasn't.

Recently, I was invited to dinner at Delmonico's along with a presentation by Peter Freedman, author of Ten Restaurants That Changed America. He discussed his book and why he made his selections, whether it was an innovative service (such has Howard Johnson providing the idea of "fast food" or Antoine's in New Orleans serving French food). I consider myself a foodie so I found this talk very intriguing. And of course, anything that Delmonico's served was amazing...like this Baked Alaskan dessert!!!

The private dining rooms that I saw in Delmonico's were on the lower level. For the presentation we were in Dicken's Alcove, which has that "old world" feel and would be excellent for dinner for 100 people. There is a bar that connects Dicken's Alcove to the Twain Room, which is for a more intimate dinner or meeting for 40 people. The Twain Room is mostly black and white so it has a contemporary feel, but the fireplace adds some charm to the room.
