An Evening at The Whitby
I recently had the opportunity to attend a lecture and reception, and to view the private event rooms at The Whitby Hotel in NYC. This one-year old property (opened in March 2017) is the sister hotel of The Crosby in Soho, which opened in 2009. Both hotels feature unique interior designs and art, curated by Kit Kemp. For me, its fluid, colorful and fantastical interiors make it memorable - a change from some contemporary minimalist designs or historical grandeur decor of its boutique hotel competitors.
Most of the meeting rooms are located below street level of The Whitby, and are accessible by stairs and by elevator. Both open to a main foyer and bar, which is great for receptions. From here, there's access to an auditorium (The Whitby Theater) as well as two other meeting parlors. The Araminta Room is great for a small dinner (10 - 16 people) where the Anrep Room is great for slightly larger dinner parties (up to 26 people).
Two levels below street level, I stumbled in to the Reading Room. This is a great lounge space that would be perfect for a 100-person reception, a tasting, or an informal lecture. The design of the room calls for some kind of social gathering. Of course, the room can also be set up for a banquet dinner as well up, to 40 people.
The Whitby Theater seats 130 people and is perfect for a private screening or a lecture. The room is fully equipped with AV sound and projection. In case you're wondering, the screen itself is 30 feet by 12 feet.
There are more rooms available at The Whitby to hold your private event. Unfortunately, the ones featured on this post are the ones I had access to when I attended my event.
