Tour My Hotel Room: Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai, China

Located in the in finance district of East Shanghai, the Pudong Shangri-La is a two-tower, luxury property on the Huangpu River. Within walking distance are plenty of malls and eateries, as well as the iconic skyscrapers, such as the Oriental Pearl Tower and the Shanghai Tower.

Service at this hotel has been excellent when I stayed this past May 2019. Whether trying to find a taxi, obtaining directions and maps from the concierge, or managing my hotel bill (you know, splitting items between work and personal expenses), staff has always been hospitable.

I found my hotel room to be very clean upon arrival, and remained so during my entire stay. I actually felt bad at times because I knew I made a mess on some days, but upon my return to my room, everything was set as if nothing happened. I also appreciated the nice touches, such as the bookmarks left on the bed every day, that had different quotes from the book Lost Horizon.

Pudong Shangri-La has a 4-star rating from Forbes Travel Guide as of 2019. The rooms are larger than what I expected and the views are fantastic (particularly of the Bund across the river). Hotel rates can get pretty high, but I have seen rates as low as under $200 too.
