Let’s Meat BBQ in NYC

Let’s Meat BBQ in NYC

“It’s only $19.99 for lunch, all you can eat,” was the message I received. “We have to check it out.” And so on a slow Friday, my colleague and I headed over to this AYCE resto on Fifth Ave near 32nd Street.

As soon as the door opened, the scent of grilled beef slapped us in the face, taunting us to step further in. The interior look was a modern version of a Korean BBQ restaurant – hip and casual. We lined up along the bar with the other people who were waiting, until it was our turn to be seated by the hostess. She brought us at a four-top, with a long, exhaust pipe coming down to the middle of the table.

Our server fired up the grill as she took our order. First, she placed vegetables on the grill: onions, bamboo shoots, pumpkin. For the meats, we started with some brisket and marinated ribeye (aka bulgogi), and of course, rice. Right away, we were served a variety of side dishes, from pickled cucumbers to coleslaw to kimchi. She also placed a basket full of lettuce leaves on the table in case we wanted to make our own meat wraps. After our server grilled the meats for us, my friend and I chomped away on everything, savoring each bite.

After round one, we decided to go for some something spicy – like spicy pork. That’s when I realized that I’m not crazy about the spicy flavor. Thank goodness we also ordered the (non-spicy) sliced pork belly. This is by far my favorite – I’m convinced the fat holds the flavor!

As for drinks, I liked the menu of Korean favorites (even if they are a little expensive). I recommend trying the Bokbunjaju wine (black raspberry wine) which you drink in the small soju glasses (but they are not shots!). If like soju, try the grapefruit flavor. It’s delicious!

After visiting Let’s Meat BBQ, my colleague and I discussed the possibility of holding a staff party here. What could be more interactive and engaging than cooking your own meats for everyone to try? I found out that the restaurant is open to hosting groups of at least nine people to parties for up to fifty people maximum.

Even if you’re getting together with a group of friends – this place can be a lot of fun. You might smell like BBQ when you leave but I promised you will be well-fed and happy.
