Vancouver in 2 Days
As a meeting planner I have to check out potential destinations for my meetings and events. If you're in the industry, you know what I mean. It's a tricky thing, these familiarization tours. Not enough time enjoy the city, but enough time spent to see the highlights of it while also checking out hotels where you plan to do business.
For me, I haven't been to Vancouver since I was a kid. Honestly I hardly remembered any of it. But I have several friends who have been to this city and just fell in love with it. My understanding was that it was a city like New York or San Francisco, with easy access to a beach because of the surrounding water, the forest because of Stanley Park and the mountains nearby where one could pretty much ski anytime of the year.
Well, I didn't get to travel to the mountains but I'm afraid I too fell in love with this city during this trip. I still have more to explore but thank goodness, because of my meeting, I will be coming back to Vancouver a few more times.
The picture taken above was the view from my room at the Sheraton Wall Centre, in downtown Vancouver. I had a corner room with floor to ceiling windows so I appreciated the beauty of the combination between city and nature.
On one of the tours we went on was with Landsea Tours & Adventures where we drove around Gastown, Yaletown, Stanley Park and Granville Island. In Stanley Park we stopped to admire these beautiful totem poles.
Despite a long day, my colleague and I were game for checking out another beautiful attraction that felt like it was only 15 minutes away from downtown: Campilano Suspension Bridge . Going through this park felt like an adventure. Even if you were afraid of heights *and I'm not* the grounds are lovely and the views are stunning.
A few other landmarks we visited were the Museum of Vancouver, Granville Island, Canada Place and A-maze-ing Laughter bronze sculpture in Morton Park.
For me, another adventure tour that I loved was with Sea Vancouver . This was a speedboat tour on the bays where we learned little bit about Vancouver's neighborhoods, their maritime commerce and nature preservation initiatives. Okay, I really liked the bumpy ride and the sharp turns, though surprisingly I did not get wet.
