Adding Moroccan Style to My Wardrobe
With the Labor Day weekend and the close of summer (sniff, sniff) upon us, I packed my Moroccan dresses that I had worn all summer at the shore house. While packing, I realized that I never really showed off any of the clothing I bought during my trip to Morocco earlier this year. And I couldn't think of a better time than now!
Resort Wear
I saw a lot of these dresses in the souk, and they were not expensive though you do have to inspect them thoroughly before buying them in the market. I chose a few dresses that had the lighter fabric because I thought they would be great for summer. They were a lot like the yellow dress because they had various embroidery and pattern designs on different color fabrics. Each dress had its own personality, but all were perfect for summer. I called these dresses my "resort wear collection." My favorite is the red dress because when I wore it, I felt like Mariah Cariah, lounging at home in my diva robe!
Shoes
I didn't realize this until I was home: I had bought matching shoes to two of my dresses! I thought these shoes were each very unique and I love the sequins as an accent. What made it even more attractive to me was that the heels are low, which means that they are easy to walk in. Both the gold and red colors are bold enough to make a statement with any outfit. Some people may notice the toe tip curved up. I actually like this feature because it also reminded me of a hint of cowboy boots.
The Shawl Scarf
Scarves can be found anywhere and the souk in Marrakesh is no exception. But here, the scarves were inexpensive and intricate in design with bold colors. I have a tendency to buy wide scarves that can also serve as shawls. I like the look of an oversized scarf with a winter jacket or a cover for a summer dress. One of my favorite scarves (now) is this bold orange reversible that I've paired with my purple, brocade jacket. I especially like the wide, gold trim on the scarf. To me, this is a major find!
Head Scarves
When I was in Morocco I purchased these really long scarves that were meant to be used as head scarves. In my mind I thought I would look just as elegant as Ingrid Bergman in the movie Casablanca. The locals showed me two ways of wearing the head scarf. The "Casablanca" look is the one with the white scarf whereas the "Mary" look is the one with the blue scarf on me . I prefer the "Casablanca" look and I am going to try to pull it off this winter, hoping that I get some favorable reactions.
Robe
I saw a lot of people in the medina in Marrakesh wear more casual robes similar to this, so I wanted one. When my eyes fell on this dark red velvet on with the gold embroidery accents, my inner diva just had to have it! With the cooler weather coming soon, I thought this robe would be a nice cover, something different from wearing your average jacket. However, I am working on adjusting it a bit. There is a permanent closure at the base of the neck (you can probably see the five knots there). I'm thinking of cutting it open, and adding a larger, button closure that can also be opened.
So that's everything! I've been trying to incorporate these pieces into my wardrobe throughout the year and I can't wait to experiment with the robe once Fall/Winter begins.
Au revoir à l'été!
