Sushi of Gari 46

Sushi of Gari 46

Happy Foodie Friday!

Sorry for missing a post this week - things have been a little hectic at work. Nevertheless, I want to share with you this awesome restaurant I experienced on Tuesday night. I told my friend Ivette I was in the mood for sushi and she highly recommended Sushi of Gari 46. She raved particularly about a "tuna plate" that I had to try. Located on Restaurant Row in NYC (46th Street between 8th and 9th Ave), this restaurant is small but very, very packed - I guess the menu is indeed very popular! Sushi of Gari has four restaurants in NYC, including this one on 46th Street.

We started out with an Omakase of 12 pieces. I learned that you could tell your server your likes and dislikes, and then the chef will prepare something creative for you. My only dislike is shrimp because I'm allergic, but I love everything else, especially eel, mackerel, salmon and sea urchin. My friend, I learned, was not a fan of eel or mackerel. Like, at all. Hmmm

So here's what our Omakase looked like (keep in mind there's 4 pieces for me on each plate times 3 plates):

Out of the 12 pieces, my favorite was the sea urchin. It's as if they took and and charred it enough to have that burnt look.

Following our Omakase was the tuna plate. Basically it was 8 pieces of different types of tuna or it was prepared in different ways. Even though our server explained the different pieces to us, the most memorable for me was the fatty tuna. Love the fatty tuna!

So now I've got another favorite place sushi place in the city. If you have any recommendations for sushi places, let me know!

I told you I love sea urchin, right? So I also had to order the fresh "uni"!
